ESA Annual Mid-Atlantic Conference

Aside from the amazing presentations and posters, the grounds are an absolute wonder to wander around in! There were specific rooms created to highlight biomes - desert, tropical, an entire space full of orchids, etc. Outside the grounds were well manicured and small plants in the grassy lawns were all in bloom. It was my first time visiting Longwood Gardens though I grew up maybe an hour and an half away. For my fellow scientists, you can do research at Longwood Gardens! There was an introductory talk when we got there highlight the services the gardens provide to researchers. If you study plants or pollinators, there seems to be plenty of room to start a study. I’m sure you can contact someone on their website. Very cool!

I had a great time at the Ecological Society of America’s Mid-Atlantic conference at Longwood Gardens, in Pennsylvania. The grounds were absolutely stunning! I was there with my pal and often comic con partner, Dr. Pedram Daneshgar and two students. The students were presenting their research on a project I am tangentially attached to about the microbiome and pitcher contents of our gorgeous native the purple pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea). They did an amazing job! I am so proud. I was there to present a chapter of my dissertation research which was recently published in the Journal of Vector Ecology (link to the article). I stood next to my poster, answering great questions about mosquito biology. I love conferences because I get to see what everyone else is working on, which makes me a better scientist and sparks ideas for research I can do.
